Welcome to our introduction of the Mother Goose Time Curriculum celebration kits! This is now my second year using MGT curriculum, which means I am learning what gets repeated from one year to the next. I was actually quite saddened to see that they reused the same celebration kits as last year while not providing as many supplies as they did last year. All but one of my students in my 4 year old class attended my 3 year old class last year. This means we would have already done these same celebration themes, activities, snacks, and crafts last year. For a preschooler, it doesn't matter all that much, since it was an entire year ago. For myself and for the parents, it can be a bit too repetitive. However, that doesn't mean they aren't still awesome kits!
For some reason, I forgot to take pictures of all the materials that come in the celebration kit before I packed up the curriculum for the month, but if you read closely, you can see which activity comes with supplies and which ones require you to provide your own supplies. This is a well rounded-out celebration, providing many hands on learning activities, songs, movement, craft, and snack ideas. Here are shots of each page of the kit manual:
One of the student's favorite activities was the "Reindeer Training" movement game. They each took turns spinning the wheel to learn a new reindeer movement. Once every student had a turn, we used each of their movements to create a reindeer "dance." We then turned on the monthly theme CD, chose a winter song, and called out the order of movements as they pranced around, dancing like reindeer!
When I was first planning the month, I opened the planning guide to see that one of our favorite crafts was back from last year: reindeer headbands with hand traced antlers! It was planned for Day 1 of the month, but I knew right away that I wanted to save it for our Christmas party! We spent a lot of time this month and during our party emphasizing the true meaning of Christmas by using our "Experience God" December curriculum to teach the story of the Savior's birth and why we give gifts. However, I also wanted to have a reindeer themed party, so we focused also on the "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" story and how he used his gift to serve others (our scripture for the month)!
Here is our herd of adorable reindeer!
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and pray that Christ will be in your hearts this season and always! To learn more about MGT, visit www.mothergoosetime.com.
